Hamadryas februa
Photo take in a jungle expedition Very common butterfly in Yucatan peninsula
Thanks Mary
Wonderful spotting and what a beautifully marked butterfly.
Definitely Hamadryas februa: Brown circles and "empty" patches on the forewing. In Feronia the patches are black.
Thanks Sarah and SmallI learn something more.
I agree Sarah! The best way to distinguish H. februa is the eyespots have black crescents instead of complete black circles. Cheers!
I find the cracker butterflies to be difficult which is why I did not ID it. Thanks for the correction!
Most likely Gray Cracker (Hamadryas februa), I recently had a similar spotting in the same area: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/853... and this species is very common here.
This is a type of cracker butterfly. Possibly a variable cracker (Hamadryas feronia).
