Jamaican Digger Wasp

Sphex jamaicensis

Habitat:

A Caribbean wasp found in Cuba, Bahamas, Little Cayman, and Jamaica, is also found here in South Florida's parks, and disturbed fields.

Notes:

A fairly larger wasp than paper wasps, this showy rust orange wasp with iridescent black wings was feeding on a patch of Wild Poinsettia. NOTE: I made up that common name, as I don't find one on line, from the scientific name.
