Giant Grasshopper

Description:

this truly one of the largest grasshoppers in the world it measures 15cm (6 inches) and can weigh upwards of 30 grams. the entire speciman couldn't fit into the macro view! These grasshoppers have the most beautiful redish/purplish wings. This one was spotted on a fence post next to a street lamp at night.

Habitat:

this one spotted in the tropical dry forest of NW Costa Rica. Known range is from mexico to northern south america.
