Ouachita map turtle

Graptemys ouachitensis

Description:

A dark brown carapace that was about 8 to 9 inches and features a row of low vertebral spines, and is serrated on the posterior rim. Neck and limbs are dark gray with thin yellow stripes. Also identified by the two yellow spots under the eye and a larger one on top or behind the eye.

Habitat:

Spotted in a pond at Ott Park. River bottom hardwoods nearby next to the Arkansas River.
