Northern Pintail Drake

Anas acuta

Description:

Slightly smaller than a mallard this beautiful duck has a very distinctive profile and coloration. The head has a cinnamon brown color that extends down the neck and has a white stripe on it. Bill is gray and the body is gray to white with black markings on the wings.

Habitat:

Rivers, lakes, ponds and reservoirs.

Notes:

The male of the species has a very distinct and easily identified profile because of very long tail feathers. I was excited to be able to photograph this bird because the only other Pintail on my lifelist was an identification based on the male of the species profile..
