Wood Frog

Rana sylvatica

Description:

1 - 3 inches. Dark "robber's mask" bordered by white stripe on upper jaw, both ending just behind the eardrum. Prominent ridges at juncture of back and sides. The Wood Frog is the only North American frog found north of the Artic Circle.

Habitat:

Moist woodlands in East, grassland and adjacent aspen thickets in Northwest, and tundra in Far North. In summer, Wood Frogs stray some distance from water.
