Nephilid Orb Weaver

Nephilengys malabarensis

Description:

A big orb web spider closely related to the famous Nephila spiders. Species name - Nephilengys malabarensis. This female spider is nocturnal. About 1.5 cm / 15mm in length. Black body with cream-brown stripes at legs and lined patterns on abdomens. Bright orange patterns under it's abdomen - http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/108... Quite common around Rose Cabin.

Habitat:

This one lives behind a wall mirror outside a building of Rose Cabin (inn), Kundasang, Sabah, Malaysia.

Notes:

This one and several other females of the same species that are living behind the same mirror only crawl out at night. I captured this one before it could retreat back into it's hideout. These photos are taken the next morning after I have released it back onto the wall, the night before was to dark for me to take good pictures of it. >>>Map accuracy : 10m diameter.
