Dioscorea bulbifera
Huge, tenacious vine related to yams. Can grow up to 8" per day in right conditions. Dies off in winter but re-sprouts from underground tubers. Has become a nuisance in subtropical places like Florida, where it will quickly shade out and smother native plants.
Native to Asia and Africa. Widespread in warm areas worldwide.
Produces edible tubers underground similar to sweet potatoes. Bitter taste can be removed by boiling.
