Description:

Huge, tenacious vine related to yams. Can grow up to 8" per day in right conditions. Dies off in winter but re-sprouts from underground tubers. Has become a nuisance in subtropical places like Florida, where it will quickly shade out and smother native plants.

Habitat:

Native to Asia and Africa. Widespread in warm areas worldwide.

Notes:

Produces edible tubers underground similar to sweet potatoes. Bitter taste can be removed by boiling.
