Common Castor

Ariadne merione

Description:

Ariadne merione, also known as the Common Castor, is an orange butterfly with brown lines whose larvae feed almost exclusively on Castor Ricinus communis. It is similar in appearance to Ariadne ariadne, the Angled Castor.

Habitat:

spotted in my garden, in a section where there is low shrubs and grass, Tamil Nadu, South India

Notes:

These photos were of a male and female pre mating. I imagine the lighter one is the female.
