Spring Peeper

Pseudacris crucifer

Description:

Spring peepers are 0.75 - 1.25 inches long. They are brown to gray and usually have a dark "X" on the back that may sometimes be partial.

Habitat:

They are found in wooded or brushy areas near temporary or semi-permanent bodies of water throughout Tennessee.

Notes:

One of the first sounds of Spring. The call is a high pitched, piping whistle, "peep, peep, peep."

Yes they have been calling since around the 15th of January. I bet they have been rather quiet the past couple of nights with this cold snap though.
