Heterobasidion annosum
The foto-series shows the severe and fatal damage of Red Rot (Heterobasidion annosum) caused on Norway Spruces. The rot starts in the center of the stem, destroying the inner structure and destabilize the tall stem in a length from (ground) up to 3 m. Width of spread decay depends on the width (age) af the stem. The active rot can be seen clearly on the first pic as a white circle around already full rotten reddish structure.
Conifers
Red rot is causing severe economical damage in forestry worldwide.
