Frutilla silvestre de sabor sin igual muy suave y aromático. Es una planta herbácea perenne, de la familia de las rosáceas. Junto con F. virginiana, es la progenitora del fresón o frutilla ananá (F. × ananassa), la variedad más consumida actualmente.
Tiene flores bonitas blancas y relativamente grandes y hojas trifoliadas y dentadas en la parte exterior.
La frutilla silvestre es fácil de propagar por esquejes, crece sin problemas, no teme las heladas, necesita bastante riego.

This delitious wild strawberry has a sweet, soft, mild taste and aroma.
Fragaria chiloensis, the beach strawberry, Chilean strawberry, or coastal strawberry, is one of two species of strawberry that were hybridized to create the modern garden strawberry (F. × ananassa).
It is an evergreen plant growing to 15–30 centimetres (5.9–12 in) tall, with glossy green trifoliate leaves, each leaflet around 5 centimetres (2.0 in) long. The flowers are white, produced in spring and early summer. The fruit is edible, red on the surface, white inside.

Its fruit is still sold as a local delicacy in some South American produce markets.

Habitat:

Crece en América del Norte y América del Sur en una gran variedad de climas y suelos.
En la zona norte de Chile crece a semi-sobra de los bosques y más al sur ocupa áreas más despejadas.
Estos especímenes fueron encontrados en claros de bosques húmedos sobre los 800 msnm, en tierras expuestas de bosques talados, al parecer prefiriendo las mismas condiciones de suelo que los "Trunes" o "Cadillos" (Acaena argentea).

Its natural range is the Pacific Ocean coasts of North and South America, and also Hawaiʻi. Migratory birds are thought to have dispersed F. chiloensis from the Pacific coast of North America to the mountains of Hawaiʻi, Chile, and Argentina.

Al buscar información sobre esta especie he encontrado muchas contradicciones e inconsistencias. Quizá sea debido a que se desarrolla muy diferentemente según su entorno.

Estos especímenes, crecen como plantas rastreras dando muy pocos y pequeños frutos por planta. En ocasiones presentándose frutos blancos en vez de rojos.

While looking for information on this plant found many contradictions and inconsistencies regarding plant and fruit dimentions. Maybe due to the varied environments to which this plant has adapted.
These particular group of specimens where small creeping plants, with few scattered tiny red fruits. I have rarely seen them bearing white fruits.
