Sweet Chestnut

Castanea sativa

Description:

This is a very old chestnut tree. The trunk has about a meter in diameter, there is a wound of fire in the middle of the tree. It can be seen from one side (but not on that series). Alfer all it is still alive and grows on. The "grain" on the third picture has a diameter of about 20 cm and must be very old, too.

Habitat:

Found in the hills surrounding my home village
