Sanderling

Description:

Sanderlings are small wading birds that are often found in large flocks racing waves up and down on ocean shorelines as they feed. They are about 18-20 cm in length. In winter sanderlings are very pale. In breeding colors they have a heavily patterned brown and white back and white beneath.

Habitat:

Shorelines during migration. Breeds in the high Arctic during the summer.
