Swamp White Oak (young)

Quercus bicolor

Description:

The Swamp White Oak is an irregular, somewhat shaggy oak found in swamps and other moist areas. The bark is grayish-brown and is ridged and scaly. The leaf edges are wavy rather than deeply lobed and are hairy beneath. This was my first sighting of the Swamp White Oak. There are not many oaks in this area where this was discovered.

Habitat:

Swampy and wet areas.

Notes:

On the snow machine trail to the left of Potters trail at Great Averill Lake.
