Chrysolarentia lucidulata
28mm; forewings wavy patterns of brown and white; rear wings yellow
Resting under eves of suburban house.
Lucid carpet !!? Gotta love a name like that. http://www.lepbarcoding.org/geometridae/...
The BOLD link pics are pinned specimens and clearly from somebody's old collection. Sometimes a photograph of a fresh specimen provides useful information about a species that a pinned specimen no longer provides.
You could donate a copy of your excellent photo - I have sent about 50 photos to EOL (via flickr) to add to their reference collection
That's an excellent match on the waves and carpets.
Pity about the yellow. Could it be just lost scales? (the specimens in the BOLD link look quite tired)
Argybee. I have a little booklet from Peter Marriot "moths of Victoria" Vol III Waves and Carpets. Geometroidea - Larentiinae. There are maybe 200 photos. The link seems to lack the yellow skirt, but my reference photo is a perfect match.
...and those who studied it long ago say they can't believe how much it has changed... what fun!! :)
@Argybee,
Argybee one just can't win! I studied biology, but it is so long ago, I can't remember!
