Winter Firefly

Ellychnia corrusca

Description:

Winter fireflies are large diurnal fireflies and lack the light organs that are found in nocturnal species.

Habitat:

Eastern Canada, Eastern U.S. Pacific Northwest. Tree trunks, under bark in the spring and on flowers in the fall.

Notes:

Observed on the trunk of White Pine.

Hi Peter,
It was still winter according to the calendar, but this was during our March heat wave, I believe it was in the mid 60s ;)
