They are very similar species and can be confusing. Remember to look for that blue streak and you won't go wrong.

Thanx KeithRoragen... I hve a National Widelife Federation Birds & Butterflies book I went off of for identification, but they aren't real clear about the markings of different species of Swallowtail. I'll correct it. :)

This is actually a Black Swallowtail - Papilio polyxenes. In Spicebush Swallowtails the media row of orange spots is interrupted by a blue streak that looks like a comet. See this spotting as an example.
