Description:

Shrub or small tree. Leaves, simple, alternate, evergreen, shiny upper surface, with small rounded teeth. Flowers, small, white, male and female on different plants. Red or yellow berries in fall.

Habitat:

Full sun to full shade. S heat tolerant.oil, adaptable; poor to well draining.

Notes:

Native Americans used the stems and leaves to brew a tea that contains caffeine. Dry young and mature leaves.
