A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
An amateur nature photographer, I use my camera as a digital collecting 'jam jar', taking photographs and studying flora and fauna ecology.

Sign In to followWeird or what! Looks like something that someone had made up from spare bits and pieces laying around the garden. Lovely set of photos, great captures.
The color variation is huge. have a look at the following link: http://www.harlequin-survey.org/recognit.... It varies from the form that you describe to orange with 16/17 black spots. I wouls suspect that your photo is the later but without seeing the details of the head, its difficult to be certain.
Think that this might be the Harlaquin ladybird?
Amazing bugs. I have never seen these critters before. Wished they lived in my backyard - they look incredible. Brilliant photos and well spotted too!
Wow - a very unusual picture of a Starling. You must have been using a slow shutter speed. You have some simply great images that tell interesting 'stories'.
Lol - too right. Mother nature's innovation is boundless and stunning!
Beautiful capture of the grace and power. Love the lighting too.
Ahh - L series lens Doina. Something that I dream about. Very impressed that you post your work on National Geographic. I use the Sigma 150mm lens for my macro work and have been having great fun this year as it's my first year of serious photography. Still trying to capture decent wild bird photographs but the joy is just going out with a camera and not knowing what you will come back with.
Hi Annvan & Doina. Thanks for your kind feedback. Its so nice to have such positive feedback. The normal reaction to my photographs is 'Ugg, its a bug'!. :-)
