A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
I have a wide variety of interests, including fossils and nature. I have been studying nature in New Mexico for several years.
Sign In to followI would guess it's a sweetheart underwing moth. If you saw it fly, were its hind wings bright red?
Nice spotting! I would guess it's a five-spotted hawk moth but it also could be a six spotted hawk moth. You can count the number of yellow spots on either side of its abdomen to determine which (I can't see them all in the photos).
What a beautiful find!
Beautiful! Maybe a vetch of some sort but I'm not sure of the species.
Wow that's an amazing moth! Nice spotting!
Nice spotting! That's a beautiful moth!
Nice spotting! I would guess it's a modest sphinx moth because of the location, but other than that I don't know how to differentiate between the modest sphinx and big poplar sphinx.
Nice find! I would guess, however, that it is a mourning cloak caterpillar, not an Edith checkerspot. They are pretty similar, but if you just search and compare them on google images you can see some differences.
Wow that is cool looking! I'm afraid I can't identify it though.
