It is part of the larvae.

Oh my goodness! I'm dying to see this one! its a Red Harlequin Butterfly. Its rare... lucky you!
They are.. Never really got to see one with a perfect wing & both tail in perfect. Spotting this one was so exciting!
The barons have similar looking caterpillars... those with long spikes/brushes. Happened to find a photo of Gaudy Baron's caterpillar here:
