Not an orchid. Looks more like an Aechmea sp.
100% Ophrys orchid. It's hard to distinguish the exact species as many Ophrys spp look almost the same. :)
I found this specimen among weeds and grasses near a cliff on our way towards the Sagada Hanging Coffins, Mountain Province, Philippines. The place has a relatively cold climate. I too am interested in parasitic plants such as this. :)
Thank you for your comments! Yes, they are truly amazing plants.
Thank you for those comments. :)
Excellent spotting!
Spotting of the Day? Wow, what an honor! Thanks to all of you! I'll tell my students about this too. :)
Thanks, @DanielePralong and @maplemoth662. It was quite a delight for my students and myself to nurture it back to health. Well, about the difference between L. menoetius and zampa, L. menoetius is grey all throughout the outer side of the two white lines on its wings whereas L. zampa has a light grey (almost white) highlight that tapers back to dark grey. (Sorry that I don't know what those wing markings/parts are specifically called—I am not an entomologist. lol)
Thanks, maplemoth662
You're welcome! Here in the Philippines, we also have seeds which have similar colors as the ones in this spotting. They're called Precatory Peas and we use them as bracelets or charms even though they're known to be poisonous.
