I am delighted to have the ID. I do like lantern bugs - especially with wings open. I have never seen one with tails like this before.

I misspelt the word rather than misread what I wrote but at the time I thought it was alive rather than parasitized.
However I guess the white extensions are probably the fungi rather than the insect.so it might be a lantern bug.

My understanding of these things is poor but I think this insect was alive and well. I have seen things that are paralysed as you say but don't think that was the case here.
It would not surprise me if I am wrong.
