A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
I saw a similar one in the same general area, but had no idea what it was till I got help.
Thanks Michael and Sergio.
I am delighted that Jae searched for it.
Thank you ever so much.
I am delighted to have the ID. I do like lantern bugs - especially with wings open. I have never seen one with tails like this before.
Thanks Jae,
I misspelt the word rather than misread what I wrote but at the time I thought it was alive rather than parasitized.
However I guess the white extensions are probably the fungi rather than the insect.so it might be a lantern bug.
My understanding of these things is poor but I think this insect was alive and well. I have seen things that are paralysed as you say but don't think that was the case here.
It would not surprise me if I am wrong.
Thanks Forest Dragon.
I do not even remember knowing about this type of creature till I looked into this photo. I thought it was a praying mantis.
Thank you.
I thought it would be obvious to someone as it is very distinctive and I don't think rare.
Thank you.
I am guessing that people interested in botany with think that obvious.
I really like this one.
