They are also known by the common names of resurrection lily and hurricane lily.

Thanks Alice! They are so colorful and gregarious. I only see them once or twice a year and really consider it a treat.

Thanks Karen! The raven was so close to the parking lot. I was really lucky to see it up close. They are really amazing birds.

I also think that it is a red-eared slider and a male. They males have long claws and older ones can be so darkly colored that you can't see the red splotch on the head.

NikkiG Gray/Cope's Gray tree frog
Gray/Cope's Gray tree frog commented on by NikkiG Wisconsin, USA11 years ago

I am pretty sure it is a Gray Treefrog (Hyla versicolor) or a Cope's Gray Treefrog (Hyla chrysoscelis). Unfortunately it is impossible to tell them apart just by sight, the only way to accurately identify which species is to hear them call or to do a blood test.

NikkiG Cuban Tree Frog
Cuban Tree Frog commented on by NikkiG Melbourne, Florida, USA11 years ago

I don't believe that this is a Cuban Treefrog, the toepads are not large enough. The presence of a "bandit mask" running from the nostril area through the eye and (in the last photo) small orange dots on the inner part of the thigh suggest that this is a Pine Woods Treefrog.

NikkiG Little Grass Frog

Based on the tiny size of the frog, the location you spotted it, the apparent whitish belly and the dark stripe that runs through the eye I think it is a Little Grass Frog (Pseudacris ocularis). The spot on the side looks to be a small piece of the black dirt that it is sitting on. Congrats on spotting one of these, they are quite hard to find due to their tiny size.

Your description is so funny, I can picture the whole scene in my head. Anyway, I think the lizard is a common basilisk (Basiliscus basiliscus) also called a Jesu Cristo in Spanish because of its ability to run on the surface of water when it is threatened.

I don't live very far from you and I had one of these running around my house earlier this month. The best I could come up with is a species of wolf spider.
