Both species do look the same, though i think your suggestion has more credibility considering its from a book and not the internet

StevenSpragg Mallard Duck
Mallard Duck commented on by StevenSpragg California, USA12 years ago

About the same emma, but it depends on the light ( best seen in the shade). The blue pigment (The Mallards) for the iridecent feathers are dominant over the recessive purple pigment which is seen in the pacific black duck.

I remember a bird expert who told me that to tell between pure breed Pacific black ducks and mallard/pacific hybrids was the colour of the iridecent feather. If it was blue it most likely a hybrid and if purple it is a pure breed pacific black duck. I reckon this bird is a hybrid

The feather colouring of the ear seems too strong for blyth's??? I reckon we need an expert right now.

Thanks, we also have the Masked Lapwing here, the banded lapwing is the less common of the two

This is a species of pipit, judging by the long back claw. Im finding it hard to distinguish between species but wikipedia has a complete pipit species list in india, see this link:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_bir...

My best guess is the Richard's Pipit- which ive seen in Australia
