an expert just now confirmed that both the flowers are different varieties of Nelumbo nucifera.

And secondly, Nymphaea is the genus for Lily, while Nelumbo is the genus for Lotus... That may explain the difference.. Though I am myself very confused about it..

Thanks... Certainly it is white and it is lotus, but the wikipedia link of N.lotus describes a picture with petals quite different.
