I am an Noah ranger, unschooler and organic gardener. I live in a small town in the San Joaquin valley of california.
Central California USA
How fast was it? I think it might me a juvenile black racer.
Don't know for sure the species but I can tell by the head shape it is not poisonous.
I changed your spotting to damselfly because the insect you spotted has it's wings together along it's body. A true dragonfly can not do that. A dragonfly's wings are open all the time.
I think your right. This ones spots don't match compleatly but it showed so many different patterns so who's to say there is not more. And the shape looks like a match to me.
The contrast of the green on blue is beautiful!
No problem. If you have any other questions feel free to send me an email.
It looks like the multicolored Asian lady beetle to me simply by the patterns of spots but I can't be certain. The most common in north America is the convergent lady beetle and next most the 7 spotted and I'm sure it's neither of those so you should research the multicolored Asian lady beetle on Wikipedia and see if the patterns of the spots match. If not you can probably find it here:

First of all you must ad a locaition. Also are you sure you clicked save changes at the botom? They will not be saved if you simpily exit your spotting after you finish macking changes.
Interesting.
