Thank you for comments, those suggestions are certainly closer to what I've found in the past but still seeing a fair amount of a difference.
I wish I'd had a far better phone/camera at the time for an all-round better photo but also to have been able to photo the (assumingly) tongue. I strongly remember being weirded out by it being able to extend and retract something long downwards to the tree whilst it was walking along. Maybe was something to do with putting scent down(not sure bugs even do that) or putting eggs down instead and not realising i was looking at the rear end. Tongue seemed more likely to me based on direction it was walking though
