Happy to share the info, Daniele. It was so exciting to see this Planthopper - I had not a clue what it was, but it was so beautiful perched on the ground, and that turned into a ballet when it fluttered off! Lois was so kind in briefly corresponding with me - and I am sure the information she gave is difficult to find on-line! It was a special treat for me. And I was so pleased this morning to discover a little more about her and their gift to Arizona State University!

Thanks to a similar-looking spotting by David rodriguez-roth yesterday, I think my spotting may also be in the Ascalaphidae family...though I am not sure which one. (Note especially the long, clubbed antennae and large eyes.) I'd appreciate any suggesting as to genus/species! :)

Thank you for the ID, DCDruenn! After reading the Wikipedia information and looking up more photos online, not only do I agree with your suggestion - but I found that I had two additional photos of the species that I had not recognized as the same! I've updated my spotting with the correct ID - and added the two additional photos (I trust that is permitted?)
