Hexagonal-pored Polypore

Neofavolus alveolaris

Description:

Small mushrooms with fan-shaped fruiting bodies. Upper surface was orange and slightly scaly. Cream-colored pores were diamond-shaped/honeycombed. Short, stubby stem.

Habitat:

Saprobic on a hardwood stick in a wet, dense forest.

Notes:

A polypeptide with antifungal properties, called alveolarin, has been isolated from this species.
