A medium to large agaric with chunky crusty nodules like cornflakes sprinkled on the cap. Large bulbous base, thick straight scaly stipe, partial veil remains intact. About 120mm across at this stage.
Under eucalyptus in a dry part of a local nature reserve.
Yet to search for this one... .Amanita sp.?

Thanks for the input Michel. That's handy to know about the cap scales. I expect this one will get quite large. Hope to see it again this week but so many people damage them.
Definitely an awesome looking Amanita. You can see the universal veil remnants on the cap, which can be washed/wiped off. If an Agaricus has scales on the cap, they can't be washed/wiped off. It somewhat reminds me of Amanita strobiliformis, (section Lepidella) (http://www.amanitaceae.org/?subsection%2...)
