Yellow-crowned Night Heron

Nyctanassa violacea

Description:

This is an averaged sized heron of about 61 cm in length. The head is black with a white crown and cheek patch. Eye is red. The rest of the plumage is gray. Legs are yellow.

Habitat:

Typically found near water, where they hunt food. Nests in trees or on the ground in protected locations, such as islands and wetlands.

Yeah, I did get them mixed up. Thanks for catching that. I've got it incorrectly keyworded in my database as well. There were several black-crowned in this general vicinity and I must have batch-keyworded in with those. That's cool (that I got a shot of a yellow-crowned, not that I mis-identified it). Thanks to both of you.

Gordon, like Nick suggested, this is a Yellow-crowned Night Heron. I'm sure you accidentally mixed them up. It's unlike you to get an ID such as this wrong.
