Red-shouldered Hawk

Buteo lineatus

Description:

This is a medium-sized hawk with females ranging from 48 to 61 cm (19 to 24 in) in length with a wingspan of up to 105 cm (41 in); males are slightly smaller. Heads are brown, reddish breast with barring. Tails have white bars.

Habitat:

I photographed this bird while it was hunting from a perch in an open area of the Everglades. They also inhabit forested areas.
