Coenonympha tullia california
Tan, yellow and brown butterfly with a small spots on top and bottom wing. There are two different butterflies in this series. One has orange tips on the antennae where the other's stripes continue to the tip. According to BugGuide, "within the population, no two look exactly alike. Part of the difference in antennae is the angle they are viewed at. The top of the antennae is striped dark, but the bottom isn't, and the degree of striping varies somewhat."
Grass, unknown yellow flower and Ceanothus along trail in chaparral at Daley Ranch. This genus "flies in variety of grassy habitats, including roadsides, woodland edges and clearings, prairies, bogs, and arctic and alpine taiga and tundra" - Wikipedia
This butterfly is a poor flier!
