Swift Moth

Fraus cf fusca

Description:

A pale brown moth about 20 mm long, although it looked much shorter. Thorax and head were covered with dense setae. Fore wings were tented and looked felty. They were plain except for two dark lines, one running from base of the wing down the middle and the other from wing base diagonally up towards the tornus. Small dark dots were seen along the trailing margins. Some setae seen on legs.

Habitat:

Spotted in a nature reserve.

Notes:

This small moth was plain but attractive.
My thanks to GCDruenn and Mark Ridgway for their help with identifying this moth.

Thanks again GCDruenn for your help with identifying this moth. My husband believes that this could be a Hepialid but I am not so sure. I feel the height of the wing (costa to dorsum) is greater in the featured moth than in the particular genus of Hepialidae. Will put it down as a Notodontid for now. Thanks again.
