Stick Mimic Geometrid Larva

Description:

Large Looper Larva with excellent stick mimicry in both color and integument texture. This one was 4 cm long, feeding on the seed pod of an Impatiens plant. When disturbed, it stiffens and hangs at a slight angle like a dead stick. This one does not contract the head between the legs to look like a stump. Family Geometridae.

Habitat:

Semi-rural residential area, San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico, 2,200 meters.
