Compsilura concinnata
Native to Europe & Asia, this tachinid fly was introduced to the Northeastern U.S. & Southeastern Canada as a biological control of gypsy moths (Lymantria dispar) in the early 1900s. This introduction has been a failure due to the fact that C. concinnata is an aggressive predator (over 200 host species) that has attacked many native species, including threatened ones. The main impact has been on many species of Lepidoptera native to the United States, including near extinction of the Giant Silk moth.
A vast range of habitats, because of its vast range of hosts.
