Milky stork

Description:

Milky Stork is a large bird measuring 97 cm in length. The adult has white plumage with black flight feathers. The bill is yellowish ,long and tapering . These birds can be found in South East Asia. Lost of natural habitat and food source has drastic effect on the milky stork population. The BirdLife classifies the species as vulnerable on IUCN Red List. This species is also listed on Appendix 1 (Endangered) of the Convention of International Trade of Endangered Species (CITES). National Zoo of Malaysia under Malaysian Zoological Society has bred over 200 highly endangered Milky Stork . The zoo is currently working with the local Wildlife Department on a release program for these birds and giving them out to other zoos and parks on long term breeding loan program .
