Yellow-bellied Sapsucker (female or juvenile)

Sphyrapicus varius)

Description:

She has a white throat and only a few red feathers. There is just a small amount of red in her crown, her back is black with dotting of white all over. Her underside is predominantly white with barring of gray.

Notes:

A sapsucker has visited my crab apple tree for the past three years. This year the tree has already bloomed, but last year all the holes and drilling may have affected the production of crab apples that cardinals and other birds enjoy over Winter. I enjoy seeing the sapsuckers anyway.
