Great Blue Heron

Ardea herodias

Description:

Large magnificent sea bird with blue-gray back and long neck. Easily a 6 foot wing span.

Habitat:

Along the ocean beaches on rocks and sand standing very still catching food with his sharp spear-like bill.

Notes:

This Heron was at the end of Soule Road on Hamilton Beach around noon when spotted feasting on what looked like eels. I watched him catch at least three of them within fifteen minutes.

Lovely and a little different profile! Eels for lunch, a little variety!
