Sambucus nigra
Black elderberry blooming along drainage ditch behind Via Pergolesi in Lido di Camaiore. This hydrophytic understorey shrub produces fruit used to make the famous Italian liquer 'Sambuco' and has inspired endless homemade recipes for elderberry wine. Medicinal uses of this plant are too numerous to list here, but include being considered a powerful antiviral agent.
