White-legged damselfly

Platycnemis sp.

Description:

Has greenish body when immature but mature individuals of both sexes are mainly white to pale blue; each abdominal segment is marked with narrow black line. MIddle and hind legs have enlarged white segments.

Habitat:

Favours lakes and ponds. Flies May-September.

Thanks for the advice. Double checked this ID and you're right, not in Portugal. The only problem with the books I have is that they only show a handful of damselfly and dragonfly species - nowhere near as many as there actually are! I'll change this to platycnemis sp. and look into a proper ID when I have the chance. Thanks again. :)

Platycnemis seems alright. The problem with P. pennipes is that it does not seem to occur in Portugal. There are some other species of Platycnemis present in Portugal. I do not know which of them this could be.
