Sternbergia colchiciflora

Description:

A small autumnal bulbous plant. Flowers stalkless, perianth segments almost linear. Blooms before leaves emerge or together with them. Sometimes blooms underground.

Habitat:

Various habitats from fallow fields, herbaceous vegetation, rocky places. The only sternbergia with a wide distribution (W Mediterranean to the Himalaya).

Notes:

Rare and inconspicuus.
