Campion tenuistrigus
Half lacewing half mantis.
Typically starry blue eyes, raptorial forelegs, triangular head, elongated prothorax. About 10mm long.
Exploring a broad-leafed acacia in a local nature reserve.
At last I found one !!
I am only fairly happy with this ID due to the almost perfect visual match with the CSIRO 'What Bug Is That' link.
Other names might be... 'Mantispa tenuistriga', 'Mantispa platycephala', 'Mantispilla rubicunda'.
Distribution seems to be over all of mainland Australia.
order: NEUROPTERA
family: MANTISPIDAE

Awesome spotting!
Lovely spotting Mark..
These are so cool!
Thanks. You might be right Jae. I have thought the same myself a few times but never really tried to nail it down.
Nice one, Mark. It's interesting to see that its forelegs are bend differently than that of a mantis, is it not?
Thanks L. 2200 ;-)
...stars in the eyes ! Lovely shots Mark.
Thanks Pam and Charlie... yes the new lesson with the pocket cam is to take 100 pics and maybe find two or three that are good :(
