Stalked puffball

Schizostoma laceratum

Description:

This species has woody stem, looks like a Tulustoma species when is young, but when it grows the dehiscence is by a irregular hole wich brokes all the exoperidium, resembling a star or a flower. All basidome up to 10 cm. Spores smooth.

Habitat:

Sandy soils, arid and semi arid zones.

Notes:

Not edible, some cultures in Sonora used the gleba as make-up
