Impalas (and Red-billed Oxpeckers)

Aepyceros melampus

Description:

Impalas have chestnut back and neck, brown flanks, legs and head and white underparts. Dark stripes highlight the tail and back legs. The male shows beautiful horns. The red-billed oxpeckers have dark brow upperparts, buff underparts and red bill and eyes. The feed on the grazers' parasites.

Habitat:

Savanna.

Notes:

The name impala comes from the Zulu language meaning "gazelle".
