Tree Swallow

Tachycineta bicolor

Description:

Tree swallows, indeed. Thanks for the ID! Adult with a fledgling chick that is just starting to get it's blue coloration.

Notes:

The adults will fly up high and then come swooping down at you in an attempt to drive you away when you get too close to the nesting area. (Within fifteen feet or so.) You can hear them making what sounds like a clicking noise when they get really close.

They are great birds and, yes, they will swoop at you if you get too close to their nest box. I've never had one actually hit me though. You're quite welcome for the ID and welcome to Project Noah.

By the way, if you post your comments in the "Add a new comment" box, your spotting will return to the feed and others that have made comments will get notifications that you've replied to them. Just a hint for future spottings. Again, welcome aboard. Looking forward to more great photos!

Purple martins are a good guess, but I think they are tree swallows. Nice photo!
