Eastern Tiger Swallowtail

Description:

Large yellow and black butterfly with four black "tiger stripes" on each fore wing. This one was on a Saucer Magnolia. They use members of the Magnoliaceae and Roseacea families as host plants for their eggs.

Notes:

Adults feed on the nectar of many species of flowers, mostly from those of the Apocynaceae, Asteraceae, and Fabaceae families.
