American Goldfinch

Spinus tristis

Description:

Mature male. Bright yellow body with a black patch on the head and on the edge of wings. Peach(ish) beak with some black/dark gray at the tip.

Habitat:

Grassy lawn on the edge of a canal connected to a lake. Plenty of birch and oak trees nearby. In the spring and fall the area is full of water over cranberry bushes. In the summer it is humid and swampy.

Notes:

I had the pleasure of watching this beauty playing on a dandelion fluff. They were jumping on it and eating the seeds.
